A Winning Way With Words

November 04, 2020 at 2:33 PM

As part of the Enrichment Programme at the Boys’ School, a group of talented senior students meet each week to enhance their creative writing skills. The students enjoy the opportunity to write for a purpose and so, each year, they are encouraged to enter Remuera Library’s annual writing competition, ‘Win with Words.’

The competition is open to Year 7 and 8 students who live or attend school in the Remuera area and entrants are asked to submit a narrative of no more than 500 words on a subject of their choosing.

As COVID-19 played out, it was becoming doubtful that the competition and presentation evening would take place this year and so it was with much excitement that thirteen selected finalists from the Boys’ School finally had the chance to gather at the Library to hear the long awaited results of the competition.

From hundreds of entries, three of our boys received prizes. Sebe Poole (Year 7), Theo Conley (Year 7) and Edison Zhou (year 8) each had passages of their writing read aloud to the audience before, receiving their prizes. They will have their work presented in a book produced by the Library. Published authors! Well done boys!

Congratulations to all the finalists:

2nd Sebe Poole Year 7 category Parallel Universe
3rd Theo Conley Year 7 category Bleeding Blue
2nd Edison Zhou Year 8 category The Great Storm

Other finalists:
Year 7: George McGuinness, Harry Gardner, Miqi Lu, Tom McCulloch, Niko Arlidge, Ben Worrall
Year 8: Conor Davidson-Ladd, Maxwell Clarke, Nathan Dick, Aston Ingram
