Pedals for Purpose
There seems to be a common thread among fathers, they love a competition, especially when there’s a puzzle or practical element involved. Some of the accountants may not agree, but when points are on the line and their son is involved, every dad, no matter his 9-to-5 vocation, gets stuck in.
Pedals for Purpose gave our fathers a combination they couldn’t resist. Competition, time with their sons, a puzzle, and a test of their number 8 wire mentality. Teams of three dads and their sons were tasked with assembling a bike, passing its WOF, and racing it on an obstacle course.
When they arrived at their dismantled bikes, however, there was only one wheel. To get their front wheel, teams faced a series of true or false questions, with cash for every correct answer. Once they had enough, they could buy it and begin assembly.
While the dads mainly built the bikes, the boys set to work decorating their racing suit and finish line. Every so often they jumped in to provide the extra hands needed to get the bike to WOF standard. Nothing got past our on-site mechanics, who made sure every bike was safe to race.
All that competitive spirit was for a good cause as every bike was donated to a school with students who don’t have a bike of their own. Our thanks to Parents & Friends team members Mel Burroughs and Erica Kirkham for their work behind the scenes to pull the event together and make sure our Dads and Lads had a fun evening.
