Kudos to our Year 13 NCEA Academic Honours and Colours recipients

March 14, 2022 at 4:58 PM

Last Friday, we celebrated our Year 13 NCEA Honours and Colours recipients at an assembly held at the Chapel to recognise their academic excellence. The assembly was recorded and streamed for families to view.

In her address, Mrs Angee Robertson, College Deputy Principal (Curriculum) acknowledged top achievers for their drive and courage to live and lead the school’s mission and values of Excellence.

“In the current learning environment, beyond having resilience and flexibility, it is equally important to have academic courage. This year poses more challenges for us.  As students, it will be crucial for you to reflect upon your learning programmes regularly to attain your personal success. This means having the courage to adopt a learner attitude early – being honest with what you know or understand, to identify gaps in your knowledge and seek assistance early, raising your hand and ask questions, to share your thinking with others, having the courage to choose difficult problems and risk mistakes. This is academic courage.”

“Your challenge this year, is to support and inspire others - to share your enthusiasm and love of learning - to essentially help others be academically courageous; help others shine brighter. In another year of disruption, you will have the ability to shine your torch on others,” added Mrs Robertson.

At the assembly, Acting College Principal Mr Duncan McQueen presented the awards to top academic achievers and also recognised the Top Year 13 NCEA student, Arwyn Stevens. There was a 3 way tie this year – all with a 100% Perfect Score, however, taking into consideration the Scholarship Results announced in February, Arwyn’s success in those examinations, gave her the edge.

Every year, the standard set to gain Academic Awards is extremely high and intended to motivate top academic students to achieve at the highest levels of excellence. The table below shows the standards required for Colours or Honours in their Year 12 subjects:
