Girls’ School Year 5 and 6 Camp

March 04, 2021 at 9:18 AM

With further disruption this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Girls’ School Year 5 and 6 students were lucky to get their camp squeezed in before another lockdown.

The girls made their way to Whangaparaoa’s YMCA Shakespear Lodge last week, ready to take on all the action! Requiring not only courage but also perseverance, the camp and all its water and land-based activities was designed to challenge the students to gain new skills, while building confidence and self-esteem.

On arrival, the girls set up camp and scouted the area. The camp was set out much like previous years, where the girls took a long walk uphill to view the spectacular view of the Hauraki Gulf and immersed themselves in the much talked about, waterslide extravaganza. Blessed with amazing weather, the girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

On the following day, the students were presented with many opportunities to test their leadership and collaborative skills, and push themselves and one another out of their comfort zone. The activities included coasteering, rock climbing, mountain boarding, kayaking, orienteering, raft building, archery, and a host of team challenges.

The girls displayed great courage and determination throughout, as they took on the challenges of a wide range of activities. It was great to see them support and help one another along the way, as not every task was easy! We thank the parent helpers and Girls’ School and Shakespear Lodge staff who contributed to the experience for the girls. It was fantastic to see everyone have a great time.
