Girls’ School Musicale Hits All the Right Notes 

A showcase of talent, teamwork and the joy of performing, this year’s Girls’ School Musicale saw students share an eclectic programme spanning Kapa Haka, orchestral and string ensembles, rock, choir and hip hop with a hall filled with family, staff and fellow students. 

Kapa Haka opened the showcase before the Orchestra took over, setting in motion a programme that shifted in style and tempo throughout the night. Flora MacDonald Strings and Chamber Orchestra featured after the interval, while six rock bands, three in each half, added a contemporary edge. Vox Box performed fresh from earning Gold at Kids Sing, and the Highland Belles had their opportunity to sing after missing the festival while away at AIMS Games. 

Dance provided two of the night’s high-energy moments. The Year 6 and 7 Hip Hop group lifted the tempo ahead of the interval, before AIMS Hip Hop delivered a spirited finale. Equally noticeable was the support among the girls themselves, with friends cheering one another on throughout, particularly as the rock bands performed. 
 

Behind each appearance were many hours of practice and rehearsal, as the girls worked to hone their skills under the guidance of their music and performing arts teachers. Their progress is also supported by families through the lessons, rehearsals, practices and countless drop-offs that help make opportunities such as Musicale possible.
