The girls from Years 0-3 had their opportunity to run, jump and throw this week at the Boys’ School on the top field for their annual athletics day. This year the junior girls had their own event which also included the fun and entertainment of tabloid sports competitions.

Dressed in their house colours, the junior girls dashed the 60 metre sprints, sprang their furthest in the long jump and tossed in the ball throw. A crowd of family and friends had joined the girls for the day to cheer on our youngest athletes and show their support.

After the individual events, there was much excitement as it was time for the friendly rivalry of the house team competitions! All the girls thoroughly enjoyed competing against their house challengers in the sack races, frisbee throw and the hurdle races. The juniors certainly displayed some serious house spirit encouragement from the side-lines!

The morning’s nerves wound up a notch as the names for the 60 metre track finals were announced. The fastest eight girls for each year then lined up at the starting gun and ran their hardest for the top three placings.

Congratulations to all girls for their fantastic participation and teamwork. All students who took part can be very proud of their input on the day in achieving their personal best. The winners from each event will be acknowledged in an assembly next week.
