The Northern Tour is widely respected as being a worthy test of a cyclist. It features a 4km (U16) and 8km (U17 & U19) Individual Time Trial at Point England, a challenging hill climb up Mt Wellington and a multi-lap Criterium at Highbrook.
Saint Kentigern took honours in the first race with Jensen Foster continuing his outstanding season, claiming gold in the U17. Further success followed with Ruby Spring also claiming a well-deserved gold in the U14. Both Sacha McLeod (U16) and Sophie Spencer (U15) gained silver while Emma Hannan (U16) and Sophie DeVries (U15) took bronze. The hill climb produced two further podium placings: Ruby Spring silver and Emma Hannan bronze.
Day two saw our cyclists also claiming their share of the trophies, this time in the speed-filled Criterium. Among the standouts were Ruby Spring and Jacob Hannan taking the golds in their respective races. This put Ruby first overall and Jacob 3rd. With Jensen finishing 2nd in the Criterium he placed 2nd overall and Emma narrowly missing a podium place to finish 3rd overall. Worthy mention should also go to Sacha McLeod and Sophie Spencer who placed 4th overall and Sophie de Vries who place 5th overall. Saint Kentigern Cycling is now preparing for the National Championships to be held in Christchurch at the end of September.
