Willow Park Christian Camp, Eastern Beach

After a COVID delayed start and weeks of anticipation, during the first week of Term 2, Year 5 eagerly jumped on busses to Willow Park Christian at Eastern Brach.  The buses were buzzing with excitement as they departed school and pulled into the driveway at Willow Park. The weather gods played their part in providing us with a week full of sunny days, allowing the boys to make the most of all the activities provided. Without a doubt, the underlying theme for this year’s camp was Teamwork! Teamwork, Teamwork!  With many of the activities requiring a team approach to be successful. The boys enjoyed activities such as, kayaking, raft building and racing, archery, jousting, various team building activities and a 25-foot rock wall, which many of the boys conquered by the end of our stay.

The boys were keen to share their highlights and challenges:

My biggest challenge on camp was making it to the top of the three climbing walls blindfolded. It was so nerve-wracking and such a terrifying experience but what a great accomplishment.

Hugo Smith

The best activity on camp was raft building because it was a water activity which I like. The biggest challenge was lifting and building the raft. The building was difficult because all the ropes had to be secured or else the whole boat would break and capsize when it was put in the water. The lifting was hard because the boat was heavy. We had to lift the boat into the water carefully or else the boat would break apart.

Nathan Wang

I really loved spotlight because I heard so many birds and the grass was so soft. I also enjoyed spending time with my friends.

Louis Burn

My highlight of camp was the America's Cup raft building challenge this was awesome because we got to build rafts and sail them around some buoys. It involved lots of teamwork and laughs. There was lots of cheering and encouragement from the groups to keep going. I was excited to see my group in the lead and I thought it showed how well we worked as a team.

Jimmy Sutton

My highlight of camp was the America's Cup challenge because it was an awesome experience to build a raft plus I was the boy that was chosen to sail it. The water was salty and waves splashed against us. The only thing that I wish was different was that the water was a bit warmer. It was freezing!

Austin Zhao

My favorite activity at camp was the mountain biking because I learned how to do some slick tricks on the bike. My friends and I had an extremely competitive game of who could do the best trick. When I hopped on the bike, I felt nervous like my heart had skipped a beat. When I was riding, I could feel the sweat on the handlebars as I was breathing in the cold air.

 Alexander Grant

My favourite part of camp was the rock-climbing wall because when I was about to hit the buzzer my team was cheering me on and I could see the wonderful view of Eastern Beach below me!

Archie Aspinall

My favourite part at camp was the dinner because the food was so delicious, especially the meatballs!

Leo Liu

Camp was amazing! One thing that was awesome was when I conquered my fear and hit the buzzer at the top of the hardest rock-climbing wall.

James Deacon

My favourite experience at camp was the exciting rock-climbing wall. It was a fantastic activity and when we were waiting, the grass was still dewy from the night before. When I got to the top of the wall, I smacked the buzzer and let go of the wall and it felt like I was flying.

Harry Simpson

My biggest learning moment at camp was at archery. It was my very first-time doing archery and I thought that I was bad at it. It came around to my turn and I hit two bullseyes! I learned that if you never try, you won’t know your own success.

Joshua Wu

I loved camp because it changed me in multiple ways. It helped me to make new friends and I learnt new things.

Levi Todd

My favorite part of camp was the movie night because we got to stay up late and eat popcorn. The popcorn tasted so good. We got to bring our sleeping bags and a soft toy so we could get comfy. We watched Abominable. It was a great movie.

Alexander Galbraith

My highlight of Year 5 camp was the basketball because we all had to work as a team. We had to pass the ball around. In my imagination I could see myself getting the ball in the hoop and I could feel the grip of the ball on my hands. I could hear the other team celebrating because they got the ball in the hoop. I thought the other team was going to win I felt relieved that we won because the scores were close.
