Boys' School Senior Athletics Day
November 15, 2013 at 8:36 AM
The Mt Smart Stadium all-weather athletics track proved to be the perfect venue for the Senior Athletics Day at the Boys’ School this week. The sheltered stands provided some welcome shade relief to our athletes and supporters on the day from the baking hot November sun.
All boys from Years 4-8 gave it their best effort in the high and long jump, discus, shotput and track events. Whether this was competing for their own personal best and striving to secure a placement in their year or in the finals. As usual, deciding the winners of the track races were made all the more straight forward with the use of the timing camera at the finish line.
The boys all performed extremely well in the heats, especially with their show of endurance in the 800m long distance track event. The runners really had to pull out all their energy reserves in order to pace themselves and complete the lengthy two laps around the track.
Congratulations to the senior boys who succeeded in breaking school athletics records. In the 800m, Year 5 student, Vinay Chichester secured a time of 2:40.82 along with Year 7 student Benjamin Anderson who locked in a time of 2:31.10. Discus and high jump measurements were also beaten this year with Year 5 student, William McLachlan jumping a height of 1.26m and Maia Scott from Year 7 throwing a distance of 32.65m.
Well done to all those boys who gave their all in athletics this year.
