Athletic Development Coach - Internship (2 Positions)

Saint Kentigern College is offering two internship opportunities for motivated and aspiring Strength & Conditioning (S&C) professionals to join our Athletic Development team for the 2026/2027 academic year. These part-time positions provide invaluable hands-on coaching experience within one of New Zealand's leading school sport environments. Successful applicants will be provided opportunities for growth and development in the youth development space and support for gaining their ASCA level 1 Accreditation. You will be guided and supported by our experienced coaches and staff.
About the Internship
Each internship is 15 hours per week, scheduled Monday-Friday, with shifts available 6:00-8:00am or 3:30-5:30pm (some flexibility within the guaranteed hours). Interns will work under the supervision of the Head of Athletic Development, supporting programme delivery across student athletes from Years 7-13.
As an Athletic Development Coach, you will work directly with the Head of Athlete Development to lead the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD), rehabilitation and/or general health and wellness programs. Support the implementation of strategies linking the College to the latest Sports Science techniques and initiatives.
As part of the internship, you will:
Typical Daily Schedule
6.00 am - 8.00 am: Support Sports teams and individuals with program delivery & Gym supervision.
8:50 am - 3:30 pm: School Timetabled Hours where certain Athletic Development Classes occur throughout the day.
3:30 pm - 5:30 pm: Delivering and/or supporting Head of Athletic Development with program delivery & Gym supervision.

- Assist in Designing and Implementing Training Programs: Collaborate with our coaching staff to develop and execute strength training and conditioning regimens tailored for various sports and individual athletes.
- Supervise Training Sessions: Oversee student-athletes during workouts, ensuring proper technique and safety protocols are followed (weight room, on court, cross-training, individual sessions, injury rehabilitation, speed, agility, power, conditioning).
- Facilitate testing and analysis: Learn and assist with regular performance testing of student-athletes using specialist equipment (measurement equipment, timing lights, force-plates & etc
- Educate Athletes: Teach proper equipment usage and training techniques to enhance athletic performance and prevent injuries.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist in the upkeep of our training facilities, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all users.
- Professional Development: Participate in weekly projects, assignments, and educational sessions aimed at enhancing your knowledge and skills in strength and conditioning.
