Rugby, Rain, Hockey, Squalls, Football, More Rain!

June 26, 2017 at 2:22 PM

Yesterday the Boys’ School welcomed their ‘southern cousins,’ St Andrew’s Preparatory School from Christchurch, a fellow Independent Presbyterian School. Their college takes part in the annual Presbyterian Quadrangular Rugby Tournament with Saint Kentigern, Scots and Lindisfarne and the preparatory often engages with the Boys’ School. St Andrew’s last visited the Boys’ School in 2014 and our own boys have regularly toured there for both winter and summer sports.

So who was responsible for the weather?! Up for discussion was whether our visitors brought if from the south or whether it just always rains in Auckland. Either way, the fields were wet, the players were wet and there were plenty of umbrellas on side lines!

Steady rain, then passing squalls and further rain meant the boys’ rugby and hockey teams, and the mixed football teams had to dig deep and each side put up a strong fight. With some excellent play from both sides, Saint Kentigern had the edge, winning the rugby 67-7, the hockey 6-4 and the football 12-1. Our top scorers were Ethan Agimalo scoring 4 tries in the rugby, Hamish Aspinall scoring 2 goals in the hockey and Ralph Rutherford scoring a whopping 5 goals in the football!

Well done to all the teams taking part this morning. Following a shared lunch, St Andrew’s headed away. We hope they enjoyed their time in Auckland – despite the weather!
