Year 8s Camp Adventure on the Coast

30 March 2026

Our Girls’ School Year 8 Camp returned this year to the spectacular coastal setting of Mangawhai, with students staying at Moirs Point Christian Camp, surrounded by sweeping ocean views, native bush and golden sand dunes. Blessed with stunning weather, the week was filled with action‑packed, high‑energy days that challenged both body and mind.

Students embraced the elements through surfing, sandboarding, stand‑up paddleboarding, beach games and kayaking at Mangawhai Heads, building confidence and resilience while pushing personal boundaries. Onsite activities fostered teamwork, leadership and connection as students navigated the spider web challenge, raced for record times down the waterslide, constructed bush shelters and hammocks, experienced archery, and learned flax weaving.

A standout highlight was the ever‑popular doughnut making, expertly led by Harry Scott from Barefooted NZ, whose depth of knowledge helped students connect meaningfully with nature while developing an understanding of Māori games and culture. The much‑anticipated glow disco provided a joyful celebration, showcasing outstanding moves and vibrant energy.

The camp was an outstanding success, creating lasting memories and new friendships, and exemplifying resilience, perseverance and leadership in action.
