The Amumzing Race Across the World
A television household staple turned reality is always going to land well. Our community delivered as mother-son groups piled into JC Chalmers for The Amumzing Race Across the World, inspired by the BBC’s Race Across the World. Although the usual £20,000 prize was not up for grabs, bragging rights arguably worth just as much were, and our families came ready to compete.
Each House had their own night, kicking off with the mighty Cargill. Their green dress-ups were on brand and proved commitment to the cause well before the starting horn sounded.
The race opened with a quiz to earn clues to each country’s location around the school. Tasks at each station tied back to their destination. Scotland called on parents’ artistic talents with a Loch Ness Monster face-painting challenge, Japan tested origami skills under pressure, and Greece, home of the Olympics, had full teams on their feet for a relay race holding the torch.
Throughout the night, teamwork, recall, problem-solving, and communication were all put to the test. Each completed task earned one to three stamps on a passport, with groups racing to reach twenty-six before returning to the finish line.
The linked-arm finishes, wide smiles, and victory cheers from each group said everything about the night. When time was called, every unfinished team returned to the hall for dinner, spot prizes, and a photobooth to close out the evening.
