SKC’s Got Talent 2016

September 23, 2016 at 1:35 PM

Our own home grown talent was on show last night, presenting vocal and dance items to a panel of invited judges at the annual SKC’s Got Talent. Host for the evening, Arts Prefect, Sam Elliot, kept the evening rolling with lively banter, his own stage presence and TheatreSports skills plain to see. He promised us an evening of great entertainment as the finalists lined up to ‘do their thing.’

The annual talent show is a student-led initiative spearheaded by the students on the Arts Council. The eight finalists for the evening had been selected by the students themselves from across the age range, after a number of auditions leading up to the night. Those selected gave it their all as they competed for the coveted titles.

From block-busting show tunes to rock, contemporary melody, a rap and a toe-tapping tap dance, the items were a pleasure to watch. These were students who clearly loved what they do!

Old Collegians, Sharnika Leleni and Jack Muirhead, along with a guest, Jack Collins, from Sacred Heart, formed the judging panel. Both Sharnika and Jack were greatly involved with the Arts programme during their time at College. While the judges were deliberating the entries, College Rock Band, Haze returned to the stage for two more numbers.

With the wait over, the announced winner for the evening was Lively Nili who sang an Alan Stone number, ‘This bed I made,’ while playing guitar, winning him the title and a trophy. The judges commended Lively for his ability to connect with the audience.

Second place went to Year 10 student, Matthew Turner singing Adele’s ‘Someone like you,’ accompanying himself on ukulele. Third place went to Year 9 tap dancer, Izzy Fox.

Our thanks to the Arts Council for their work to make this happen. The evening was much enjoyed by all involved.
