It was heart-warming to see our College students pouring in with bags of food and toiletries this week for our first Saint Kentigern Foodbank collection, known as The Shed Initiative. We are pleased to share that the shelves at The Shed have been filled up with 7,015 items.
In this collection drive, our students and their families contributed priority items such as baked beans, canned tomatoes, pasta, rice, spreads, weetbix, toilet paper and toothpaste. Students, staff and volunteers will soon start packing these food boxes which include fresh items such as bread that are purchased on a weekly basis.
Our aim in 2022 is to distribute up to 60 boxes of food and essential items per week valued at approximately $70 each, to different schools around Auckland. These boxes will be distributed by social workers to families in need.
Being a House competition, each item collected this week has been counted and allocated House points. Congratulations Cargill House for leading the way and coming up first in this Term’s collection drive.
We would like to thank all our students, parents, and community for their generous support in making our first Foodbank collection a success.
