Learning through sport

06 October 2026

For our youngest learners, the annual Preschool Tabloid Sports is a chance to experience a range of sporting activities in a fun and encouraging setting. This year, the event unfolded across two mornings, giving the younger and older classes their own opportunity to learn what each activity involved and put it into practice.

Across the different stations, there was plenty to discover. The younger children dribbled balls towards goal, aimed bean bags, rolled balls to knock down pins and navigated a mini obstacle course. For the older children, the challenges included guiding a hockey ball between cones and towards goal, dribbling and shooting a football, and taking a long jump into the sandpit.

Each activity asked something a little different of them. The children practised aiming and controlling, coordinating different movements and following instructions. Some came naturally; others took a little more concentration, but all offered the satisfaction of giving it a go.

Both mornings culminated in running races on the Top Field, cheered on by parents, grandparents and siblings. Just as lovely to watch were the children calling out encouragement to their friends from the sidelines. Some siblings also lent a hand at the stations and finish line before lining up for their own race, followed by the parents, with a handful of teachers joining in.

With plenty of encouragement and fun along the way, Tabloid Sports offered our Preschoolers an early experience of the organised sporting events that will become a familiar part of school life.
