Kentoris Qualifies for Big Sing Finale

Our three Senior choirs performed at Auckland Town Hall for the 2026 Big Sing Auckland Regionals on Wednesday, 17 June. Each year, this festival gives more than eighty-five choirs across the region the chance to share stories and ideas through song.

Menasing, our lower voices choir directed by Dr Matthew Leese and alumnus Ivan Zhang, performed a compelling programme featuring Matariki, Salaam, and Resilience. Despite their small size, the ensemble produced an powerful sound supporting their musical maturity and commitment.

Later in the day, our treble choir Musettes, directed by Rachel Young, presented a varied programme consisting of Sanctus, Szellö Zug, and Carry Me. Their performance was met with high praise from the adjudicators and an award for Best Choral Art Music Performance for their outstanding rendition of Szellö Zug. Their efforts also earnt them a place on the Cadenza reserve list, recognising the top Upper North Island choirs not selected for Finale.

Kentoris, our premier mixed-voice choir conducted by Dr Matthew Leese, rounded out the day with a polished and expressive programme featuring Tu es Petrus, The World Is At Peace, and The Word Was God. Their performance demonstrated the ensemble’s musical excellence, technical precision, and artistic depth. Kentoris were awarded runner-up for Adjudicator's Award for a Singular Piece: The World is at Peace by David Hamilton. They also qualified for the National Big Sing Finale, which invites the top twenty-four choirs across the country to perform. 

We are immensely proud of our singers efforts. Their performances carried confidence, passion, and a high level of skill. Congratulations to all involved on a successful beginning to the choral season.
