Jazz Club takes up permanent residency at the College

20 June 2026

Bringing back our NYC-esque Jazz Club was a popular decision across the board. The evening’s warmth had no help from the chilly outdoors, but offered a cozy reprieve from the winter air. Bundled inside under strung festoon lights, guests were treated to smooth jazz, antipasto, and good company. Above, a crowd of parents and students lined the Music Centre’s balcony for a bird’s-eye view of the show.

The concert featured three big bands and three jazz combos, giving students the chance to showcase a year's worth of progress. Each group performed with confidence, musical maturity, and energy in front of a supportive crowd.

Alumnus Arden Matheson (2025) returned as a special guest, joining staff for a collaborative performance in celebration of his full scholarship to Berklee College of Music.

The evening also marked the lead-up to a busy stretch on the music calendar, with our jazz students now preparing for the Auckland Jazz and Blues Competition and the KBB Music Festival.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support Jazz Club. The continued refinement of these ensembles bodes well for the festival season ahead.
