Ideas Worth Presenting

The Boys’ School Science Symposium returned in Term 3, with the top Year 7 and 8 Science Fair projects presenting to an audience of peers, parents, and teachers. Projects were displayed at stations around the Macky Technology Building, with students given seven minutes to walk visitors through their hypotheses, experimental design, and results.

This year’s line-up ranged from flood management and sound engineering to food science and structural testing, but one theme stood out above the rest. A striking number of students turned their attention to artificial intelligence, building projects like an AI Monopoly opponent and a fact-checking tool designed to verify online claims, testing its uses and limits with a scientist’s eye.

The symposium gave students a platform to sharpen both their thinking and their communication, presenting original ideas to a wider audience and defending their findings under questioning. It is one of the clearest windows into how our students see the world, and where they think it is heading.
