Girls Named in the NZ Secondary Schools Netball Team

April 29, 2015 at 2:32 PM

Congratulations to talented netball players, Sydney Fraser (Year 12) and Amorangi Malesala (Year 13) who have been named in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Netball team of 12 to compete at next month’s Trans-Tasman U19 Netball Tournament in Rotorua.

Coach, Julie Seymour said that the calibre of those trialling this year was outstanding, ‘We are fortunate to have had a group of 24 of our top secondary school netballers to choose from and to be honest, it was a close call,’ she said.

Sydney and Amorangi join a strong team of netballers selected from around the country to take on Australia. The girls will meet early in May for a three day closed camp to prepare for the tournament to be played later in the month.  They are both talented shooters and join two other girls from Wellington East Girls’ College and Mt Albert Grammar as the four selected shooters in the squad.

The tournament will feature four teams with the NZSS team competing against against Aotearoa Maori and two teams selected from the Australian U19 Squad; Australia Gold and Australia Green. Over the course of three days, all four teams will play each other twice.

Equally talented player, Kristina Tipene (Year13) has also been selected for a New Zealand team. Kristina plays on defense and will be representing New Zealand in the Aotearoa Maori Secondary Schools team at an international tournament in Malaysia.

Congratulations to the girls and we wish them all the best in their international competitions!
