Fantastic Effort for Foodbank Friday

July 01, 2013 at 1:37 PM

IMG_9924.JPGOn a crisp Friday morning outside Elliot Hall, our College students generously dropped off a total of 7,583 food items to help out the hungry for our Foodbank collection.

Foodbank is a long established part of our service initiatives which are held regularly throughout the year, and is an opportunity for the Saint Kentigern community to donate to those less fortunate or in need.

Pasta, rice, noodles, tinned fruit/vegetables, soup, cereal, crackers, biscuits, muesli bars, packet sauce, spaghetti, baked beans, tea bags, sugar and Milo were amongst the non-perishable items delivered to the Presbyterian Support Northern Food Bank. They were very grateful to have their shelves refilled so that they, in turn, can give to families in our city who require extra assistance.

Giving the initiative a competitive edge, the College’s four houses - Hamilton, Cargill, Chalmers and Wishart all compete to collect the most items. This term it was a clear win from Hamilton totalling 3,600, followed by Chalmers 1478, Cargill 1431 and Wishart 1074.

Thank you to our families for their generosity, especially for ensuring that the items provided were the ones that were specifically requested.
