Eight Students make top 10% for NZ Economics Competition
In June, students from the College Commerce Faculty took part in the University of Auckland’s New Zealand Economics Competition.
This nationwide competition challenges students to an fifty minute online assessment testing their economic knowledge, understanding, and application. Students are then ranked based on their assessment scores and placings allocated.
From the eighteen students who competed for the College, eight were awarded the High Distinction Award and were invited to the recent Awards Evening at The University of Auckland to be recognised for their outstanding achievement. A High Distinction award places them in the Top 10% of the country of participants.
These students were: Daniel Xian, Aidan Chu, Alan (Kaiyue) Chen, James Wang, Tim Bacchus, Samuel Millington, Ann Huang, and Lisa Shi. Daniel was in 3rd Place overall in the Division 1 category (Year 13 students). We had a further five students who received Distinction awards, placing them in the top 25% of the country.
Head of Department, Economics, Paul Venter attended the Awards Evening on behalf of the school.
This competition has a long-standing history and this year 2500 students from sixty-nine schools took part in the competition. Congratulations to all students involved for their participation and success.
