This week drama students at the College had specialist makeup artists Cassie Morrison and Donna Rae, recent graduates from The Cut Above Academy, visit to teach them all about stage makeup.
Their visit was part of the Year 10 Drama programme, where students complete a Clowning Unit. This unit requires them to develop a personal clown character and then design their costume and makeup.
In preparation for assessment, Ms Emma Bishop, Head of Drama invited Cassie and Donna to the College to work with the 60 students in their areas of professional expertise and learn the tricks of the trade.
The finished artwork on our student models was dramatic and very life like! Brett was painted as a hobo/tramp clown and Sophie, a half happy/half angry Auguste clown.
At the end of the unit, the students will be assessed using a Level 1 NCEA Performing Arts Technology standard that evaluates the students’ understanding of the purpose of stage makeup and its application.
