College music finale in two movements
Across two back-to-back evenings in November, College musicians delivered performances that left both audiences thoroughly entertained. The Rock Showcase opened the duo of events, drawing a full house of students, families, and friends; perhaps helped by the promise of a welcome study break for those deep in exam season. Fifteen bands took the stage, from first-year groups to seasoned performers, including Groovy Gorillas and Last Chance, the College’s RockQuest Manukau Regional Finalists. The night also featured farewells to departing tutor Jonathan Annandale, whose guidance has shaped the programme, with thanks also extended to Hugo Moore, Michelle Childers, Geordie McCallum, Chelsea Prastiti, Keith Milbank and Bret Vogel.
The following evening, the Middle School Music Showcase shifted the spotlight to ensembles including the 2nd Pipe Band, MacFarland Strings, Junior Jazz Orchestra, Junior Boys’ Choir, Sinfonia, Musettes, and the Symphonic Band. Gym 1 was once again packed, with audiences treated to polished performances that reflected growing confidence and musicianship across the Middle School. Thank you to the amazing music directors and curriculum staff who helped make both these events run seamlessly.
Two concerts, two full houses, and a fitting finale to another year of music.
