Boys’ School Swimming Starts the Year at Pace
There is a particular energy that surrounds the pool during Swimming Sports. A mix of early nerves, House spirit, and the steady rhythm of race after race. Across several days of competition, Boys’ School students from Years 1 to 8 took to the water with determination.
With their Houses in mind and classmates cheering from the side lines, the Senior boys set a standard of excellence early, competing with grit and pace. The younger race days followed, showing a strong level of water confidence in even the youngest 5-year-olds. The standard across all year levels was impressive, with each event contributing to a wider display of commitment and encouragement poolside.
Several swimmers distinguished themselves not only through podium finishes, but by rewriting the record books.
Kaleb Shek (Year 5) delivered a record-breaking performance in the longest event for his age group, the 100m freestyle, setting a new mark of 1:18.31. In Year 3, Leo Gunn broke the 50m freestyle record with a time of 46.56.
Year 7 swimmer Oliver Yang produced a particularly dominant showing, breaking two records over the day in the 25m breaststroke (17.16) and 50m breaststroke (39.40). His consistency across events marked him as one of the standout performers of the competition.
This strong form carried beyond the school event, with the Boys’ School hosting the Eastern Zones competition. Competing against the best in the region, two further records were broken in the school pool. Ben O’Brien set a new mark in the Year 7 butterfly (34.72), while Oliver Yang lowered his earlier time in the Year 7 breaststroke, finishing in 38.41.
