A Round for the Next Generation

02 March 2026

On 19 February, the Boys’ School Alumni Golf Day returned to Windross Farm Golf Club for another year of competition in support of the Roselle Scholarship Fund. A full field of alumni, current staff, parents, and partners took to the fairways for a day that has long been a stand-out on the calendar

The $10,000 on the line for a hole-in-one on the 17th, once again went unclaimed. There were near misses, hopeful approaches, and a few balls that flirted with the cup but the prize lives to fight another year.

Out on the course, Team Shore Road Fore were the group to beat. Nick Lowe, Steve Kirk, Sean O'Connor, and Mark Hurdley combined for a sharp round to lift the winners Mungo Cap, edging out Team Wilkes in second. The staff team rounded out the podium in third, with Louise Garner’s calm putting carrying the group through the closing holes.

If the staff team’s third place was a quiet triumph, the Bloopers Jacket told the louder story. It went, deservedly, to Mark Fitness, whose tee shot struck a post and ricocheted straight back toward his own teammates. A near self-inflicted wipe-out that became the most retold moment of the day. Best sportsmanship was honoured with the Ron Stone Memorial Trophy, presented to Ben Hawkins for his team spirit and the effort he brought to his round.

What keeps the field full year after year is something less easily measured than scores or trophies. It is the pride of remaining connected to the Saint Kentigern community, the ease of falling back into conversation with old friends, and the understanding that every round played helps shape the next generation of boys coming through.
