In an exciting final of the Auckland Boys’ Hockey Championships this week, our Premier Boys’ 1st XI Hockey team kept tough opposition from Auckland Grammar at bay, to win 4-2 at the close of play and retain the Auckland title. This was a repeat of last year when they also met Auckland Grammar in the final.
In the build-up, the team had played well to remain unbeaten in pool play, beating Auckland Grammar 2nd 9-0, Pakuranga 6-0, Mt Albert 6-0 and Macleans 7-0 before taking the title against Auckland Grammar 1st Xl in the final.
Captained by Josh Child and Kervin Guttenbeil, conditions on the night were very wet making play difficult. With a slow start the boys were 0-1 down for most of the first half, drawing level 1-1 at the end of the half. The boys then added two quick goals to take a commanding lead. Both teams scored again but our boys held on to a great win, 4-2. Congratulations to goal scorers, Tom Vaughan (2), Cam Gordon and Lennox Moss.
This win has set them up well for the next round of competition as they head into the Supercity Championship.
The boys would like to thank all those who turned out on a cold and wet winter’s night to support them. They really appreciated it!
Well done boys!
