A personal farewell for our Year 12 graduates
The College Chapel carried an air of reflection on 14 October as families, Heads of House, and teachers gathered to celebrate our Year 12 graduates. The personalised ceremony marked a significant farewell, closing their Saint Kentigern journey.
Continuing a significant College tradition, the graduates were piped into the Chapel before being presented individually by their Heads of House, accompanied by words of encouragement recognising their character, growth, and next steps. Each student received their certificate and a Bible as a parting gift. Many have already mapped clear paths ahead, with plans spanning apprenticeships, university study, cosmetology, and early entry into industry.
Principal Damon Emtage reflected on the milestone, reminding students that “today marks the end of a major part of your life; you are not only completing a school career which you began at the age of five, but also your time as a student of Saint Kentigern College.” He encouraged them to “continue to live out our Saint Kentigern vision to Serve and Lead with Distinction and strive for Excellence in all areas of life for the Glory of God and the Service of others.”
Head Boy Luka Patumaka Makata and Deputy Head Girl Morgan Alley, soon to graduate themselves, reflected on the bittersweet nature of leaving school, sharing a sense of anticipation and nostalgia that the Year 12 cohort could readily relate to.
The ceremony concluded with afternoon tea, where families and staff reflected on the meaningful, close-knit occasion, a fitting send-off for a cohort ready to take their next steps with confidence and purpose.
