25 Years On for the Class of 2000
The 25-year reunion is always a special milestone on the Saint Kentigern calendar, and this year it was the Class of 2000’s turn to return and reconnect.
The year itself remains unforgettable, with the arrival of a new millennium and the Sydney Olympics marking a time of energy and optimism. At Saint Kentigern, the Class of 2000 brought that same spirit - energetic, ambitious, and full of momentum. Memories of Dave Cracknell’s “smarten up” chats in the gym, Shakespeare with Mrs Cunningham, “Wild Bill” Tutty’s graphics room, 7th Form Crazy Day, and the endless hours spent training, performing, and making good mates along the way, creating stories that have stood the test of time.
Two and a half decades later, that same sense of connection was felt. The laughter came easily as the stories resurfaced, and friendships picked up where they had left off. It was a privilege to have Rev David Williams and Mr Nigel Toy, who both served as Headmasters during this group’s time at the College, join the occasion, along with several teachers from those years — including Neil Ritchie, Duane Dalton, Paul Venter, Walter Chieng and Duncan McQueen, some of whom are still part of Saint Kentigern today.
From the Chapel to the emerging Year 12 and 13 precinct, the campus tour offered moments of reflection and rediscovery, each stop a reminder of how far the College has come while still feeling unmistakably familiar. It concluded in the Nigel Toy Lounge in the Sports Centre, a building that was still under construction when this group left the College.
Special thanks to Matt Jones, Michael Stenner and Mark MacKinnon for their part in helping bring the event together and reconnecting the Class of 2000 community.
Every generation shapes Saint Kentigern in its own way, and the Class of 2000 is no exception. Twenty-five years on, it’s clear that while much has changed, the things that matter most never really do — good people, shared history, and a unique bond that Saint Kentigern brings.
