Applications are invited from current Saint Kentigern staff for the permanent position of Head of Department – Student Futures at Saint Kentigern College.

The Opportunity

This position provides an opportunity for an experienced, future-focused and relational leader to provide strategic and operational leadership of the College’s career and pathway education. The role is responsible for ensuring that students across Years 7–13 are supported to identify, explore and pursue meaningful future pathways, including university, vocational, apprenticeship, employment and industry-based opportunities.

The successful applicant will lead the Student Futures team and work collaboratively with staff, students, parents and caregivers, tertiary providers, training organisations and industry partners to ensure Student Futures is a central and visible part of a Saint Kentigern education.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The role includes but is not limited to:
  • Leading and coordinating the Student Futures team to deliver high-quality careers and pathway guidance
  • Developing a coherent Years 7–13 careers and pathways programme, including links with the Navigate programme and curriculum areas
  • Supporting students with subject selection, tertiary pathways, vocational options, scholarships, applications and transition planning
  • Strengthening partnerships with universities, training providers, ITOs, employers and industry partners
  • Developing opportunities for work-based learning, Gateway placements, internships, tertiary visits and career-related events
  • Working collaboratively with staff, students, parents and caregivers to ensure pathway planning is well communicated and student-centred
  • Monitoring programme effectiveness and using feedback, data and emerging trends to inform ongoing improvement
  • Ensuring Student Futures activities are safe, inclusive and aligned with College policies and safeguarding requirements

About You

You will bring:
  • Experience in careers education, student guidance, pathway planning or transition support
  • A strong understanding of university, vocational, apprenticeship and employment pathways
  • The ability to lead, support and coordinate a student-centred team
  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, staff, whānau and external partners
  • Excellent communication, organisation and attention to detail
  • A calm, professional and solutions-focused approach, with sound judgement and integrity
  • Confidence using digital platforms and educational systems to support effective service delivery
  • A commitment to modelling Saint Kentigern’s values and upholding Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Child Protection requirements
