Head of Department - Outdoor Education
Permanent, Full-time Position | Commencing Term 1, 2026
Saint Kentigern College is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to lead our Outdoor Education programme - a cornerstone of our curriculum that extends learning beyond the classroom and develops confidence, leadership, and resilience in our students.
Reporting to the Head of Faculty – Physical Education and Health, this role provides both strategic and operational leadership across the College’s Outdoor Education and EOTC programmes. You will design and deliver an innovative, high-quality curriculum that engages students in meaningful outdoor experiences, while ensuring safety, sustainability, and excellence in delivery.
About the Role
As Head of Outdoor Education, you will:
- Lead the design and delivery of curriculum and co-curricular outdoor learning experiences, including camps and expeditions.
- Oversee planning, risk management, and Health & Safety systems for all outdoor education activities.
- Build staff capability and confidence to deliver exceptional outdoor learning.
- Manage outdoor education resources, equipment, and budgets to support sustainable, high-quality programmes.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Physical and Creative Learning portfolio through collaboration and innovation.
You are an energetic, collaborative leader who thrives on bringing learning to life beyond the classroom. You will bring:
- Proven leadership in Outdoor Education or EOTC programmes.
- A strong understanding of Health & Safety systems, RAMS, and operational planning.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Relevant teaching qualifications and current teacher registration.
