The Award
Inspired by Saint Kentigern's heritage, the specially commissioned, handcrafted commemorative award incorporates a continuous Celtic knot around its base, symbolising our Scottish roots, while the upper form rises in three sweeping wave-like forms, reflecting the sea that surrounds our campuses. Its three ascending peaks nod to the Trinity and Saint Kentigern's Presbyterian foundations.
Each award is individually handcrafted by artist Tom Barter through the ancient art of glass casting, a technique dating back to the 15th century BC. This meticulous process combines traditional craftsmanship with artistic precision, making every piece a distinctive work of art that reflects both the skill behind its creation and the individuality of those it honours
About the Artist: Tom Barter is an Auckland-based artist who works primarily in glass, well known for his free-standing silhouettes of the Auckland natural icon Rangitoto. Alongside his studio practice, he has served as Head of Arts at Saint Kentigern Boys’ School since 2011.
