Successful 2017 Triathlon Camp

January 27, 2017 at 1:06 PM

While others were still enjoying the last of their summer holidays, our triathletes were in high gear at the annual training camp to prepare for the season ahead.

Swimming, cycling and running a variety of distances in key locations around the Taupo region, individually as well as in triathlon format, was the daily programme for three days, for 30 motivated College triathletes.

The annual Triathlon Intensive, also known as the Triathlon Camp, is now in its 17th year and challenges both new comers and seasoned competitors alike. This year sunny skies and hot conditions tested attendees on the first day, while a bitter southerly brought a chill to the second until the sun and heat returned for day three.

Triathletes completed both endurance distances and a mix of shorter more intense courses, building their fitness levels to be fully race ready for the season ahead. The camp also proved to be an ideal opportunity to learn or refine skills and techniques within each sport, and to master efficient transitions between the sports to improve overall performance.

Our triathletes are now well into their preparations for a positive racing season during the term ahead.
