Snapper Food!

May 21, 2015 at 1:14 PM

Early each morning of the week, while most are just thinking about getting ready for school, the campus is already a hive of activity from down at the Music Centre to up on the Sports Fields.

There is a new club that has recently joined the early morning action, convening before breakfast in the Food Technology room in the Jack Paine Centre.

‘Snapper Food’ is a collaboration between Food Technology teacher, Mrs Susanna Pattison and Photography teacher, Mr Chris Ashforth. The idea for the club grew out of the considerable interest on social media for posting images of the food we prepare, eat or just like.

A group of approximately 25 students meet every Friday morning in the ‘JPC’ to prepare and present simple breakfast style foods. The students are then guided in different photographic techniques to show the food to its very best advantage.  The catch cry for Snapper Food is, ‘We eat with our eyes first.’ Just as important as how well the food is cooked, is the presentation.

Teams of students work to create the most tempting image posting it on the club’s OLE page by 8:20 am for judging.  The winning team each week receive a lunch voucher from Saints Café.

To date students have made and photographed the following:

  • Boiled Eggs and Toast
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Hot X Buns
  • Scones with jam and cream
  • Pancakes
  • Crepes
  • Porridge
  • Drinks..smoothies/coffee/juices

Not only does the food look great but it tastes great too!
