Running A Marathon For Those In Need

May 06, 2020 at 4:40 PM

Two Year 8 College students have been clocking up the miles in recent days! Discovering that their paths crossed during their daily exercise, Tessa Williams and Amelia Evangelidakis hatched a plan to put their running to a good cause.

Over the six weeks since New Zealand was placed in Lockdown due to Covid-19, with much of the business sector closed, the financial situation for many families has become increasingly difficult.

To help ease the way, Tessa and Amelia decided to accumulate their daily runs into the distance of a marathon over the course of two weeks – and hope that their fellow Kiwis will support them by donating to a ‘Givealittle’ page they have set up to help those in need.

Keeping social and physical distancing in mind, the girls will each run 3km a day until they reach their 42km target. The girls will donate funds raised to ‘Friends In Need’ - a charity specifically created to help support those in need during the pandemic. So far, Tessa and Amelia have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community as they have already managed to raise more than $800 within the space of three days. Well done girls!
