New York for Scarlett and Josh!

September 24, 2019 at 11:29 AM

Recently four College students, Scarlett Jacques, Josh Rose, Fionn Steele-Smith, and Catalina Addis, spent five full days at a ‘Pilot Programme’ to workshop a new musical, Moana Jnr, with an international creative team. They were selected as part of a group of 51 students from all over NZ to work on the show, and then perform it at the opening ceremony of the Junior Theatre Celebration NZ (JTCNZ). Old Collegian, Mark Bradley was the Associate Musical Director for the Pilot Programme and for JTCNZ.

During JTCNZ, 460 students from around New Zealand performed show excerpts for adjudication by the creators of Broadway Jnr shows from iTheatrics in New York.  During the closing ceremony, the adjudicators awarded six individual awards - three for Outstanding Female Performance, and three for Outstanding Male Performance. We were delighted to hear that both Scarlett and Josh each won an award! With such a large number of students being judged, their performances clearly stood out!

Scarlett and Josh, two regulars on the Saint Kentigern stage, are also part of the inaugural Kiwi Allstars team - a group of 30 students selected from all over New Zealand who will rehearse an excerpt from Mary Poppins Jnr in New York in January 2020, and then perform in Atlanta at the International Junior Theatre Celebration! Wow! We’ll look forward to hearing about this amazing experience!

Our thanks to Lyndon Katene from LK Creative for the photo.
