We congratulate Mitch Evans who has continued his stellar motor racing career with a win in the GP3 Series in dramatic fashion at the famous Monza circuit in Milan, Italy – after a tyre blowout in the first round almost dashed his chances of a series win.

Mitch left College at the end of 2010 to pursue a promising motor racing career overseas. Now still only 18 years old, he has won more races and earned more titles than most of his competitors will do in a lifetime! He won the 2010 and 2011 Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand and was runner up in the 2010 Australian Drivers' Championship despite missing three races. When he won the New Zealand Grand Prix in February 2011, it is believed he became the youngest driver to win an international grand prix anywhere in the world at only 16.

His latest title comes in just his second year in GP3 and once again, he was the youngest driver. It was just reward for an 8-meeting, 16-race season he has dominated from the opening event. All these are run in conjunction with Europe's glamorous Formula One meetings.

Mitch won a $400,000 bonus from tyre manufacturer Pirelli for winning the crown - on the proviso that he makes the leap to GP2 next year. That now looks inevitable and he will test a GP2 car later in the year - they are the cars operating at the level below F1 and at the same meetings. But they require a $2m budget and securing sponsorship is Mitch's next challenge!
