In concluding their Christian Education course, our Year 8 girls had the opportunity last week to consider the relationship between semi-precious gems and beads, and the story of Jesus.
Set up in the Common Space of the Elizabeth MacFarlan Centre, each class set about creating a high-quality, hand-crafted bracelet that told the Gospel story through the beads.
Mrs Ruth Hammond, a grandparent of a Saint Kentigern family and highly-skilled jewellery maker worked with the girls, re-telling the story of Jesus, from his birth through to his baptism, ministry, death and resurrection, relating each event to a specific bead. Each bead had been specifically chosen to represent an aspect of the story.
The girls said that they really enjoyed the jewellery making experience especially because of the meaning behind it, saying it was ‘fun’ and ‘different’. A number of girls said they were gifting their bracelets to special family members for Christmas.
