Middle College Music Evening!

June 24, 2019 at 8:47 AM

A beautiful display of talent from upcoming musicians was seen at the Middle College Music Evening! Supporters filled the Music Centre to cheer on the Year 7 to 10 students as they took the floor – for some this was their first time performing in front of a live audience.

The music calendar is full of events that give the students the opportunity to perform both individually and in groups, allowing them to express themselves in an informal, relaxed and encouraging environment.  As well as helping to build their confidence, the Music Evening is a great learning platform for those who are considering studying music as an academic subject in their senior years.

Many of our students take part in the Middle College itinerant music programme, with specialist music staff who provide lessons each week on a wide range of instruments. Each year, the programme continues to grow. This year we have more than 400 students either learning an instrument or receiving voice tuition from 35 different specialist itinerant music teachers.

The evening started with our Middle College Pipes and Drums, directed by Mr Andrew Lightfoot. Following on, the acts throughout the night included a range of solo artists and groups performing on popular instruments such as the piano and flute, to the less commonly played bagpipes and drums. There was something in it for everyone to enjoy!

Well done to all the students for their efforts resulting in a great night of musical entertainment. Saint Kentigern has amazing musical talents coming through the College.
