Melbourne Scholarship for College Dancer

July 09, 2013 at 9:37 AM

College student Molly Griffiths recently competed in the tap and jazz section at the annual South Auckland Performing Arts Competition held at the Town Hall in Pukekohe.

This annual event also includes various weekends of competitions for vocal, piano, and ballet. Aside from her solos, Molly also performed in various Troupe dances (jazz, tap and hip hop) with other troupe members from the Carter-Chan Dance Studio in East Tamaki. Molly dances and trains at the studio 4-5 times per week, and on some days up to 3 hours of 5 classes back to back. Molly loves her dance with a passion!

The competition was attended by studios mainly from Auckland, although this time there was a team from the Far North. The adjudicator was Rhonda Binnie. Rhonda is Principal of The Ritz Performing Arts Centre in Brisbane, Australia.

Rhonda announced at the beginning of the competition that her friend Jason Coleman was able to offer three scholarships to one competitor from each category (junior, intermediate, and senior). To Molly’s great delight it was announced that she was the winner of the intermediate scholarship.

Rhonda selected Molly for her diversity, passion and enjoyment of dance.

The scholarship is for a one week dance workshop at the Ministry of Dance in Melbourne in January 2014. The week includes all genres of dance plus vocal, acting and the opportunity to record their own music video.
