Mathex Win for Year 6 Boys!

September 14, 2018 at 3:27 PM

It was a closely contested success for the Year 6 boys at the Year 5&6 Remuera Zone Mathex competition last night. Hosted by the Boys’ School on site in the Sports Centre, it was a whirlwind evening of students in teams of four racing to solve mathematical problems, before racing the answers one by one to the judges for checking.

Now in its 6th year of being organised by Boys’ School Head of Mathematics, Mr David Hessey, last night’s event attracted 230 keen, young mathematical minds from local schools.

With a win to St Cuthbert’s in the Year 5 competition, the Year 6s took to the floor with determination. Competition ran very close between St Cuthbert’s, King’s and the Saint Kentigern Boys’ School A team as they raced the clock to battle it out for the top spot. The lead changed frequently and as time was running out, five teams were on 95 points. At the very last hurdle, our boys got their answer in first and were the well-deserved winners from a very close contest!

Congratulations to Year 6 winners: Yi Nan Chen, Taran Ludher-Chandra, Luca Evans and Jack Carter.
