Diwali Celebrations at Preschool

November 08, 2021 at 10:57 AM

Whether we are at home enjoying distance learning or at Preschool in our ‘bubble,’ our teachers continue to provide our Preschool community with a varied and interesting learning programme. With Diwali falling in the first week of November, the stage was set to spend the week immersed in just some of the many traditions associated with the ‘Festival of Lights.’ From exploring Rangoli patterns, making delicious sweets, experiencing Indian dancing to the lighting of candles in beautifully decorated salt dough lanterns, all the Preschool children had opportunities to learn about this cultural celebration so dear to some of our teachers and their families.

Collective familiarity with digital platforms such as Teams and Storypark allow children and teachers to maintain meaningful connections with one another. Our early childhood curriculum advocates for children to experience the stories and symbols of their own and other cultures and present children with opportunities to re-tell and create them. These learning experiences also lend themselves to fostering literacy through exposure to print and symbols along with mathematical concepts such as numbers, patterns and geometry. It is safe to say that children and teachers alike immensely enjoyed the week’s festivities proving that ‘distance’ is no barrier for us to come together as a community.
