College Symphony Chosen for Gala Concert

August 07, 2014 at 12:35 PM

The College Symphony has, for the first time, been selected to perform in the KBB Music Festival Gala Concert this coming Sunday after a stunning performance earlier in the week under the direction of Mr Timothy Carpenter and Concertmaster, Kimberley Tse.

Opening with Brahm’s ‘Academic Festival Overture,’ the group quickly established a mature, tuneful sound which filled the Westlake Boys High School Auditorium, the venue of this year’s festival.  The ‘Music of James Bond’ featured second in the programme with Carpenter skilfully guiding the group through an intricate series of style changes displaying fantastic dynamic control and excitement.

Led by an outstanding group of senior students, the Orchestra showed significant musical maturity to finish successfully with a rousing rendition of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ which had all of the Spanish flair and tempo needed to execute it well.

The Gala Concert will be held at Westlake Boys’ High School at 7pm on Sunday 10 August and will feature:

Macleans College Symphony
Westlake Symphony
St Peters and St Marys Symphony
Saint Kentigern College Symphony

The 4 top Stage Bands will also perform at the concert. These groups will be announced on Friday 8th August.
