College Rockers!

November 17, 2017 at 2:29 PM

Being offered earplugs at the door of the Music Centre last night was the first clue that this was to be a music evening a little different from the more usual fare of symphony, chamber, concert, vocal, pipes and jazz!

Twelve bands rocked the house last night at the fourth and final contemporary music evening for 2017. From rock classics to contemporary hits, our Middle and Senior College boys and girls showcased their talents in front of an encouraging audience. The younger students, in particular, learnt that it was one thing to practise in a band room but another to play to a live audience! Nerves were quickly put aside for polished performances. After a year of rehearsals, under the direction of Mr McCallum, the concert was a true celebration of the students love for music. It was loud, proud and yes, those earplugs were needed!

A special mention should be made to older students who helped the younger ones get stage ready. And, to the band, Haze, who had their last performance as students at the College. As the People’s Choice winner at this year’s National Smokefree Rockquest, they have set a high standard of musicianship for the rest of our students to follow. We look forward to hearing them take their music to next level beyond the Music Centre walls of Saint Kentigern.

A thank you to all our boys and girls who continue to amaze us with their talents. We are looking forward to the new college year as there is so much more music to be made!
