College Prefect Team Training Camp

‘I can do things you cannot. You can do things I cannot. Together we can do great things.’
Mother Teresa

To prepare for the challenges of the leadership year ahead, prior to school starting back, the 51 Year 13 students who make up this year’s College prefect team headed away for a two night camp at Willow Park on Eastern Beach. The experience was designed to allow them to bond as a team and learn a little more about what it means to be a good leader.

Selection as a College prefect is always a lengthy, rigorous process. In selecting the prefects, students from a wide range of backgrounds and interests are chosen, with each individual selected for the strength he or she can bring to the team. The time away at camp allowed the prefects to learn about each other’s strengths and consider ways they can maximise these to bring out the collective best from the team during the course of the coming year.

The camp covered a multitude of topics including public speaking, planning new initiatives for the year, the six faces of leadership, school culture, House spirit and much more - there was a great deal packed away in a short time away together! Time was spent in discussion in a conference setting, whilst other sessions were held outdoors, taking advantage of the beach setting, challenging the students to develop team work to solve problems.

By the time the students were packing up camp, there was much to reflect on and we look forward to seeing this year’s prefect team engage with the rest of the student cohort as they bring their ideas to life.

A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.
Douglas MacArthur
