College Nominated for 14 Showdown Awards

Each year the Showdown organisation has the mammoth task of watching dozens of Auckland Secondary School drama and musical productions in order to determine the most outstanding students and staff in a variety of categories.

This year the College’s Senior School Productions, Othello and Blood Brothers have been nominated by the judging team for a total of 14 awards in both acting and technical categories.

In the past the College has had significant success with a number of category wins. Last year the College was awarded:

Best Outstanding Musical, West Side Story
Best Supporting Male in a Musical, Findlay Murray in the role of ‘Action’, West Side Story
Best Lighting Design, Mr Glen Mortensen, The Crucible
Best Supporting Male Actor in a Play, Ben Elias in the role of ‘Judge Danforth’, The Crucible

The awards evening will be held at the Sky City Theatre on Wednesday 5 November.

The 14 nominations are as follows:

Best Supporting Female - Becky Lane
Best Lead Female in a Play - Chloe Simpson
Best Lead Male in a Play - Lloyd David
Best Set Design - Emma Bishop
Best Lighting Design - Emma Bishop & Glen Mortensen
Best Sound - Emma Bishop
Best Costumes - Emma Bishop
Best Props - Cathy Rood & Chris Ashforth
Best Direction - Emma Bishop

Blood Brothers

Best Supporting Male in a Musical - Lloyd David / Joseph Bradshaw
Best Female in a Lead Role - Lily Taylor
Best Male in a Lead Role - Jamie Hofer
Best Performance by a Chorus                                  
Best Performed Choreography
