College Dancers to Perform in Te Manu Ahi this Week

October 21, 2014 at 7:55 AM

The final rehearsals have been held for the eighteen College dancers from Year 9-12 who have been selected to perform in Te Manu Ahi (The Firebird) with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday this week.

The students have been travelling regularly to the Unitec dance studios over the course of last term, to be taken through their paces by renowned choreographer and director of Atamira Dance Company, Moss Patterson. The students have been truly inspired to work with a dancer of this calibre.

At their final rehearsal at the Aotea Centre yesterday, they were wowed by the spectacular performance space and incredible stage set by set designer, Robin Rawstorne!

A collaboration between the Atimira Dance Company and APO, Te Manu Ahi (The Firebird) will bring more than 150 dancers of all ages, from schools across Auckland, together to dance in concert with live accompaniment from the APO. This is a fantastic experience for our dancers.

The students will perform twice in the Aotea Centre on Wednesday 22 October. There is a concert for schools in the morning followed by a public performance at 1pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students with tickets available from the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra website for the 1pm perfomance: http://apo.co.nz/concert-events/firebird
