Chamber Music Showcase
May 29, 2019 at 8:56 AM
With this year’s Chamber Music New Zealand competition taking place next week, over 40 Senior College and Middle College musicians, in a variety of ensembles, came together to play their competition pieces at a concert on Sunday.
The event created a perfect opportunity for the groups to become comfortable performing for an audience prior to playing for a judging panel.
The Chamber Music Programme has a very high calibre of musicians involved on a range of instruments. The nature of chamber music in small ensembles means there is ‘nowhere to hide’ and students must be both skilled and confident in the presentation of their music to an audience. They learn valuable awareness skills that serve them well as members of larger ensembles, together with musicality and technical skills which enhance their development as soloists.
Sunday’s concert opened with the Chamber Orchestra who presented pieces by Teleman, Sibelius and Piazzola with Catherine Chang and Venice Qin as soloists. Their performance was beautiful!
The Orchestra was followed by the Flute Ensemble and a range of trios and quartets. From a flutes to a bassoon, from violins to cellos, accordions and pianos, and saxophones, we saw a wide range of spectacular talent.
Good luck to all the students who will perform in the Chamber Music Competition at Epsom Girls Grammar School this week, they would love your support!
