Boys' and Girls' School House Swimming Relays

March 28, 2014 at 4:35 PM

The sun was blazing, the music pumping and the atmosphere was crackling with excitement and energy as our swimmers from the Girls’ and Boys’ Schools battled it out for the title of House Relay champion. On a hot Friday afternoon, it was an ideal day to end the week, swimming and side-line cheering at the Boys’ School swimming pool.

The House spirit was turned up in full swing, the students all chanting and yelling their support to their fellow House swimmers from the banks surrounding the pool. Joining the students on the day were family and friends also showing their encouragement. As the results from each Year relay were announced, the grounds erupted as the winning Houses leapt up to their feet, singing and dancing to the uplifting music.

House points were given out on the day not only to the relay winners, but also to the Houses who were showing true sportsmanship all round. Half way through the events, Girls’ School Principal, Dr Sandra Hastie and Reverend Reuben Hardie joined together in a dance act to lead the students in their version of the ‘YMCA’ sing-a-long song! Rounding up the festivities of the day, it was a fun race of keen staff members taking to the water to rival against the fastest student swimmers.

Before the girls departed back to the Girls’ School, Dr Hastie told the crowd how special it was for everyone to come together in celebration of our House families and Saint Kentigern community. Principal at the Boys’ School, Mr Peter Cassie said the students put in a fantastic effort whether it was in the pool or on the side-lines. He said there was  wonderful display of dancing and singing, although Reverend Hardie may have to teach some students new dance moves!

Well done to all participants who swam on the day in another successful House Relay event.
