The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and passionate Teacher of Te Reo Māori to join our team, commencing in Term 4 (or by negotiation). We are seeking a kaiako who brings both deep knowledge and heartfelt commitment to te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, and who is ready to inspire the next generation of learners through culturally responsive and engaging teaching practice.

Ko te tangata e hiahiatia ana, me mārama ki te āhurutanga me te hira o te reo i te ao hurihuri, ā, me whai pūkenga hoki ki te whakaako i roto i ngā horopaki huhua, ahakoa te ao Māori, ahakoa te ao auraki.
  
Nō reira, ko te kaiako e āhei ana ki tēnei tūranga me:  
  • Tū māia ki te ako mā te reo Māori, reorua rāini
  • Ngākau mahaki, ngākau manawanui ki te whakatupu i te tangata
  • Tūturu ki ngā mātāpono o te ako Māori
  • Ngāio ki te whakamahere, te whakaako, me te aromatawai
  • Mahi ngātahi me te whānau, me te hapori hei tautoko i te oranga o ngā ākonga
Ki te whakapono koe he wāhi tēnei e hāngai ana ki tō mātauranga, tō wheako, me tō wairua, tēnā koa tukuna mai tō tono.

Hei tā mātou: Me tū ngāio te tangata, kia hiranga te mahi, kia māia te tū. Nā te ngākau ka aratakina te mātauranga – nā te aroha ka tipu te tangata.

What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a teacher who is deeply committed to te reo Māori me ōna tikanga. The ideal candidate will understand both the richness and importance of the language in today’s ever-changing world and be confident teaching in a variety of contexts – whether within Māori-centred environment or mainstream settings.
Therefore, the teacher suitable for this role will:
  • Be confident teaching through the medium of te reo Māori or bilingual language
  • Be humble and patient, with a heart for nurturing others
  • Be grounded in the principles of Māori pedagogy
  • Be professional in planning, teaching, and assessment
  • Work collaboratively with whānau and community to support student wellbeing

Your Role – Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Te Reo Māori curriculum through engaging and innovative teaching
  • Provide high-quality learning experiences in both Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori
  • Collaborate with curriculum leaders and colleagues to support strategic goals
  • Promote and grow the subject, enhancing visibility and academic outcomes
  • Participate actively in kaupapa Māori and wider school initiatives
What You’ll Bring
  • New Zealand registered teacher with a current practising certificate
  • Relevant teaching degree or equivalent experience
  • In-depth understanding of current teaching and assessment practices
  • Strong relationship and communication skills
